Vinyasa Flow

The word ‘Vinyasa’ can be translated as ‘arranging something in a special way’, like Yoga poses for example. In Vinyasa Yoga classes, students coordinate movement with breath to flow from one pose to the next. Ashtanga, Baptiste Yoga, Jivamukti, Power Yoga, and Prana Flow could all beconsidered Vinyasa yoga.

Vinyasa is also the term used to describe a specific sequence of poses (Chaturanga to Upward-Facing Dog to Downward-Facing Dog) commonly used throughout a Vinyasa class  (Yogajournal, 2016).

ashtanga-yoga

Ashtanga Yoga

This dynamic, physically demanding practice synchronizes breath and movement to produce an internal heat designed to purify the body. Ashtanga Yoga, with its many Vinyasas, is great for building core strength and toning the body.

Prepare to sweat as you briskly move through a set sequence. Ashtanga Yoga was founded by K. Pattabhi Jois.

hatha-yoga

Hatha Yoga

Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical Yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha Yoga. The word ‘Hatha’ can be translated two ways: ‘wilful’, ‘forceful’, or the Yoga of activity, and as ‘sun’ (ha) and ‘moon’ (tha), the Yoga of balance.

This alignment based Yoga class encourages the body to burn fat and toxins, create strength and flexibility and build concentration. This class strengthens and purifies the body and uplifts the spirit!

It includes standing, sitting and reclining postures. Emphasis is on creating balance between strength and flexibility, assisting in the healing of the body and relaxing the mind.

barre-class

Barre

Barre is a workout that mixes Pilates, Yoga and Ballet for maximum results. It strengthens but lengthens your muscles. Develop long, lean muscles without bulk. Sculpt a ballerina’s body, enhance flexibility and improve balance. Many say that after only five classes, you’ll see changes in your body, gain strength, and tone those hard-to-target muscles in your core, arms, and legs. And the best part: anyone — no matter their age, weight, or fitness level — can hit the bar and get results.

You’ll start with a mat-based warm-up full of planks and push-ups, do a series of arm exercises, and continue at the bar with a lower-body section to work your thighs and glutes. Finally, you’ll finish with a series of core-focused moves at the bar or a short session on the mat. Pregnant women are welcome too as Barre classes only include minimal abdominal exercises.

pilates-on-matt

Pilates on the mat

Mat Pilates is a type of mind-body exercise promising the regular participant a longer, leaner body. Pilates was created by German-born fitness enthusiast, Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920s. Pilates developed a following among dancers for his ability to rehabilitate them from injury and create long, lean bodies without added bulk.

The mat Pilates exercise routine is performed on the ground using an exercise mat. The exercises in mat Pilates focus on strengthening the muscles of the hips, back, abdominals, and glutes or what is known in Pilates as the powerhouse.

Strala Yoga

Created by Tara Stiles, Deepak Chopra’s yoga instructor, and author of Slim, Calm Sexy, Strala Yoga is designed to clear the body and mind, and connect people with the intuition to find their own best health and spirituality. Strala challenges beginners and seasoned practitioners alike to move slowly with their breath, building both attention and strength while letting go of obstacles.

Through her New York studio and various nationwide programs that include work with marathoner Ryan Hall, Tara is looking to make yoga part of cross-training for athletes, preventive health care, and all-around feeling good.

In a Western culture so focused on achievement, on striving for more, on testing human limits, it can be easy to transfer a “push yourself” mentality to yoga. But according to internationally renowned yogi Tara Stiles, this attitude will only hold you back. We offer: Strala Yoga, Strala Core, Strala Gentle, Strala Energize & Bedtime Strala.
